Viva Films unveils upcoming movies for 2020

Thirty four titles are set to be released by Viva Films this 2020, and 15 projects were already in the post production stage and just waiting for cinema release.

Viva Films formally launched last Monday, January 28, the 2020 Viva Vision — the movies they are about to produce and release for this year.

Here are some of the movies to expect for from Viva Films this 2020:


Untrue revolves around a bruised and beaten wife named Mara (Cristine Reyes) who seeks the help of a Georgian police against her husband Joachim (Xiam Lim). In this He-said-she-said film, truths, lies, and the dark past will be uncovered.

This upcoming suspense drama thriller from Viva Films and The Idea First Company under the helm of Kita Kita director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, starring Xian Lim and Cristine Reyes.

Untrue will be released in select cinemas on February 19, 2020.


Viva Films has acquired the rights of the 2011 Korean movie Sunny for local adaptation. The Sunny remake will be topbilled by Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

Sunny revolves around a middle-aged woman who wants to fulfill the wish of her dying friend, to be reunited with their high school friends.

The film alternates between two timelines: the present day where the women are middle-aged, and the 1980s when they were in high school.

The film sold 7,375,110 tickets and grossed USD $47,068,227, making it the second highest grossing Korean film of 2011 and the fourth highest grossing film of all time in South Korea at that time.

A Hard Day

Kapuso Primetime King will topbill the Philippine adaptation of the 2014 blockbuster South Korean action thriller film A Hard Day which grossed over USD $24 million.

Joining the Kapuso Primetime King are John Arcilla, and Janno Gibbs.

According to Viva Films executive Vincent del Rosario, they were planning to submit A Hard Day as one of their official entry to the Metro Manila Summer Film Festival.


After the success of Jowable in the box office, another film is currently in the works under director Daryl Yap. The director’s second movie project, Tililing, will be topbilled by Chad Kinis, Gina Pareño, Baron Geisler, Cai Cortez, Donnalyn Bartolome, Yumi Lacsamana, and Candy Pangilinan.

Joaquin Bordado

Dingdong Dantes will also topbill the second film adaptation of Carlo J. Caparas’s comic series Joaquin Bordado. The first full-length film adaptation of Caparas’s masterpiece starred Ramon Revilla, Sr. in 1988.

Twenty years later, GMA Network aired a TV adaptation of Joaquin Bordado starring Robin Padilla and Iza Calzado.

100 Tula Para Kay Stella 2

Bela Padilla will be reunited with JC Santos for the upcoming sequel of 100 Tula Para kay Stella.

The Wedding Breaker

Alessandra de Rossi and Bela Padilla will star in this upcoming comedy movie from Viva Films.


Marco Gumabao and Bela Padilla will topbill the Philippine remake of the 2011 South Korean romantic comedy film Spellbound.

Ultimate Oppa

Fight For My Way actor Kim Gun-Woo will be paired with Bela Padilla in Ultimate Oppa.

The Devoted

Co-production ventured with The Idea First Company, this movie from Viva Films will star Anne Curtis.

Pak Boys

Pak Boys will be topbilled by Janno Gibbs, Dennis Padilla, and Andrew E. Joining them are Marissa Sanchez, Maui Taylor, Nathalie Hart, Leo Martinez, and Ana Roces, under the direction of Al Tantay.

Mang Jose

Former on-screen pair Janno Gibbs and Manilyn Reynes will reunite in Mang Jose. Their love team became popular in the ’80s.

Instructions Not Included

Janno Gibbs will also star in the upcoming remake of the 2013 Mexican comedy-drama Instructions Not Included. Child actress Xia Vigor will join Janno in this upcoming project.

Walang Ka-Paris

After the success of Kita Kita in the box office, Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez will star in another project of Viva Films. The entire production of Walang Ka-Paris will be done in Paris, France.

Love The Way You Lie

Xian Lim, together with Alex Gonzaga and Kylie Verzosa, will topbill Love The Way You Lie which is inspired by the 1990 American film Ghost.
