After battling for his life for the past 12 days, veteran actor Eddie Garcia passed away today, June 20.
According to a medical bulletin issued by the Makati Medical Center earlier today, the veteran actor passed away at 4:55 PM.
“We join the entire Filipino community in praying for the soul of Mr. Eddie Garcia and his dearly beloved family and friends. We extend our deepest condolences to the Garcia family,” the statement read.
He had suffered a cervical fracture.
Garcia has been in the showbiz industry for almost 70 years, starting his acting career in 1950 with the movie Siete Infantes de Lara. Soon, he became a director as well.
The actor and director is best known for portraying villain roles and for starring in action and comedy films.
Garcia won several awards all throughout his career. In the FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards) Hall of Fame, he is the only artist to be prompted as Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Director.
Before he started his showbiz career, he served as a military policeman in Okinawa, Japan with the Philippine Scouts after World War II.
